About & method

Agent For You is a one-person project by Ravin, a software developer. The premise is simple: when you decide to do a nerdy thing, you do not want ten tabs of reviews. You want one page that says here is everything you need, in order, and why.

How kits are chosen

Each kit starts from a goal, not a product category. Parts are selected by reading the primary sources (manufacturer specs, maintainers’ docs, long-running community consensus in places like r/LocalLLaMA and r/homelab) and by preferring the boring, proven option over the newest one. Every part gets a written reason. If I would not buy it for myself or a friend, it is not in the kit.

Budgets, not prices

Amazon prices change hourly and the Associates program only allows live prices pulled through its API. So kit pages show editorial budget ranges: my estimate, in USD, as of the date on the page. Treat them as a planning number and check the live price before buying.

The bandit

Which kits appear first is partly decided by a small multi-armed bandit (Thompson sampling). The site counts anonymous impressions and clicks per kit, with no cookies, no user IDs, no IP addresses stored, and nudges popular kits up. Your browser also keeps a tiny local note of which topics you clicked, which only ever stays on your device and only affects the “picked for you” row. Details in the privacy page.

Money

Links to Amazon are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases. Commission never changes a pick; several kits include parts that are cheaper to buy directly from the maker, and those links are there too. Full disclosure here.

Corrections

If a part is discontinued, a price moved, or you know something better: hello@agentforyou.ca. Corrections are credited on the kit.
